On Friday 17 May, Year 2 visited Woburn Safari Park as part of their ‘Amazing Asia’ topic. On arrival the excitement built as we entered the safari area; the first enclosure was home to rhinos, zebras and ostriches, before moving on to the bears and wolves’ hilly homes. The lions were on the prowl as they received their mid-morning snack and finally the monkey enclosure was a hive of activity with dozens swinging from branches. The children were highly entertained when two monkeys climbed onto the coach roof followed by the keepers trying to coax them down before we were allowed to leave!
Finally we reached the giraffes, who were thrilled with the reflective surface of the grey coach to which they stuck their dark tongues out and wiggled their ears as if we were a mirror! After lunch the exploring continued by foot, including visits that took us right through the home of lemurs, goats, and kangaroos. A particular highlight was watching the ring-tailed and red bellied lemurs have their food. The meercats, parrots, and penguins were all enjoying the sunshine or seeking shade. We had a chance to ask some questions as well as share our knowledge of Asian animals and habitats.
A wonderful day was had by all.
